Abstract
This research was conducted at Navidad, Nuevo León, México in 1984. lt was aimed to study the response in seed production of two varieties of sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula, Michx. Torr.) to five seeding rates. A factorial design 2x5 was utilized; treatments were randomized within blocks and replica ted four times. The variety AN Seleccion 75 was bet ter than the variety Chihuahua 75 in seed yield (who le spikes), number of culms per meter of row, number of spikes per raceme, number of caryopses per gram of spikes, and plant height. The variety Chihuahua 75 was superior to the variety AN Seleccion 75 for spike weight and weight of the caryopses per gram of spikes (seed set). No significant differences were found between varieties for weight of 1000 caryopses, or among seeding rates for any of the measured variables. However, according to production costs, it was concluded that 2-3 kg/ha of pure viable seed as the best seeding rate.
