Abstract

The objective of the present paper, was to compare the first selection cycle of S1 progeny (ISC1S1) with the original variety and the drought resistant hybrid H-204 and to identify elite lines among 18 outstanding S1 lines. Three trials were stablished, under irrigation, drought and rainfed conditions at the Experimental Station of INIFAP-CIFAP, Ags., Mex. Six earlier lines with high yield potential and dry matter production were selected. Their average yield was greater than those of non selected group by 0.4-0.8 ton/ha through environments. The number of days to flowering of the ISCLS1 was reduced by 5 without any change in yield in relation to the original synthetic. The ISCLS1 showed a yield and dry matter production similar to the hybrid H-204 through environments. The number of ears per plant and harvest index were the most correlated characteristics with yield, mainly under drought conditions, with r values of O. 73 and 0.83, respectively.
