INBREEDING AND PREDICTION OF MAIZE SYNTHETICS FROM DOUBLE CROSSES

Abstract

The calculation of inbreeding of a maize (Zea mays L.) synthetic made with single crosses is reported in literature. Moreover, calculation of the inbreeding coefficient and yield prediction of synthetics have been reported for double crosses. In underdeveloped countries, however, double cross hybrids are mostly used. It is expected that inbreeding in synthetics made with double crosses is smaller than in synthetics from single crosses. In this paper the calculation for the inbreeding of synthetics made with double crosses as well as the equation for yield prediction, are shown by using a different method.
