SELECTION RESPONSE IN TROPICAL MAIZE VARIETIES
Main Article Content
Abstract
In order to determine the response of three tropical maize populations to the alternate combined family selection, the selected synthetics were evaluated in two seasons Fall- Winter (season A) and Spring - Summer (season B), in six environments of the coastal zone in the State of Veracruz, from 1988 to 1990. The results showed the three populations having a positive response to selection. Cycles C6 and C3 of Mezcla Tropical Blanca (P2) had the highest yield performance. In both seasons, Tuxpeño planta baja (P1) had the highest average response to selection (4.6 %) followed by P2 and population La Posta (P3). In season A, P1 had the highest response to selection (5.5 %), but in season B, P2 had the highest response followed by P3 and P1, respectively.
