PRELIMINARY SELECTION OF THE carya WALNUT TREE IN THE STATE OF JALISCO

Abstract

Thirteen outstanding collections of walnut from 1969 are pre­sented. Variation observed was: number of nuts per kilo, from 78 to 241; percentage of beans, from 39.5 to 47.7; crude protein percentage, from 8. 5 to 15; and fat percentage, from 53.4 to 72,5, The best selec­tion for bean percentage, 47, 7%, had 224 nuts per kilo, The heaviest nut selection (78 nuts per kilo) showed a bean percentage of 41; and the selection which showed both high bean percentage and high nut weight ahowed 46,9% of beans and 125 nuts per kilo.
