Main Article Content
Abstract
Plants of P. americana var drymifolia, Mexican race,
and of P. schiedeana Ness (chinini) were grown in soil of
electrical conductivity 5.5 mmhos cm_1 and pH 7.0 The symptoms they presented were marginal or apical necrosis, leaf drop and dieback of twigs. It was found that Cl content was very high in both species, being much higher in
the roots of P. schiedeana; the leaf content of Cl was similar in both species. The per cent of plants which survived was 4.8 for P. schiedeana and 50 for P. americana
var drymifolia.
