Abstract

The hawthorn plants that were used like rootstock, were collected in June 1979 in the bordering hills of San Cristobal de las Casas, Chis., and planted at the "Alvarrada" nursery (belonging to the SARH) the same month. The graftings were done in February 1980 with the known cvs in that place like: Red Delicious Negra, California, Red Delicious and Rayada Americana. The data were taken at random during the end of November the same year. The results indicate that the rootstock diameter have influence only in so1ne growth components· (length and shoot diameter) depending of the cultivar in particular, and the existing differences between those components can be atributed to the vigor of the cultivar and/or effects of incompatibility.
