Abstract

The research conducted by the Departamento de Mejoramiento de maíz of the Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro has succeeded in the formation of hybrids named series AN-430, characterized by compact and short plants with a wide range of adaptation. This work was carried on in 1980 with the aim of determining the most adequate population density, for this hybrid series, in each of three localities in comparison with regional checks, as well as to know the stability of the hybrids in the diferent environments (densities and localities). The results indicated that; the density at which the highest yields were obtained in the three localities was at 80 thausand plants per hectare; the hybrids were stable at different densities and local ities; in the locality of La Laguna, the hybrids expressed bes their yielding potential, the best hybrids for each locality were AN-460 and AN-462 for Río Bravo; H-309 and AN-430 for San Luis Potosí and AN-436, AN-432, AN-435, AN-431 and AN-430 for La Laguna.
