NEGRO ZACATECAS: BEAN VARIETY FOR IRRIGATION SOWING IN THE HIGHLANDS OF ZACATECAS
Main Article Content
Abstract
In 1976, almost 96,000 hectares of beans were harvested, produced under irrigated conditions in the Zacatecas highlands, with an average yield of 2,100 kg/ha and a global production of 106,000 tons, which represented 35% of the state's total production. . The main problems that limit bean production under these conditions are: discoloration and staining of the grain due to the presence of rain in the maturity stage; and in late sowing (May 15 to June 15) the presence of diseases such as rust or chahuixtle {Uromyces plaseolicola (Roben) Wint.}, halo blight {Pseudomonas phaseolicola (Burk) Dows.} and common blight {Xanthomonas, phaseoli (E. F. Sm) Dows.} that can reduce the yield of susceptible varieties by up to 80%.
