Abstract

In the State of Zacatecas in 1986, 607,750 hectares of beans were harvested with a production of 305,000 tons; The average yield was 503 kg/ha. In this important producing area of this legume, low yields are mainly due to the low and erratic rainfall and the presence of diseases such as rust {Uromyces phaseoli (Roben) Wint.} and anthracnose {Colletotrichum lindemulieanum (Aace and Magn), Scrib}, which occur more frequently when precipitation exceeds the average for the region and optimal temperature conditions for the development of pathogens coincide.
