Abstract

Considering that the Creole peach orchards have a polygenetic population, with a high variation in terms of flowering and harvest date, as well as the low yields obtained (4 tons/ha reported by COPRODEA), the initiation of the work of selection of peach criollo in 1974, based on the following evaluation elements: flowering and harvest date, tree vigor, number of fruits and production per tree, diameter and color and soluble solids of the fruit. Currently there are 65 outstanding selections of Creole peach with yields of 60 to 216 kg/plant. With outstanding selections, staggering production is feasible.
