Abstract

In the Pololcingo region, Gro. The cultivation of peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.) is important, and until 1983 only native varieties with a creeping habit were planted. However, there is evidence that varieties with an erect growth habit can adapt to that region and compete favorably with those with a creeping habit, so in 1983 an experiment was established to evaluate the performance and other agronomic characteristics of 8 varieties. of the first type of habit and 12 of the second, under storm conditions. The results indicated that the average yield of the erect varieties was higher than that of the trailing ones (3401 vs. 1948 kg/ha), although the average number of fruits per plant of the former was lower than that of the latter (32 vs. 50 ). Differences between varieties within the same group were detected for most of the variables analyzed. The erect varieties with the highest yield were Florida, NC-5, Bachimba-74 and Virginia. On the other hand, Morelos-1, RCM-1392, H-529-R-1-1-1-5 and Guanajuato 1 were the creeping varieties with the highest production, which surpassed the local Creole variety with the same type of habit.
