PLANTING METHODS AND DENSITIES IN RESIDUAL HUMIDITY CHICKPEA IN GUANAJUATO

Abstract
In the State of Guanajuato (México) there about are not precise recommendations about plant density and sowing methods in chickpea (Cicer arietinum var. fuscum). In 1981-82, a randomized block design with four replications was established at 4 locations; plant densities of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 seeds per lineal meter, were studied in rows 30 cm apart; the best treatment was 10 seeds/per meter (76 kg/ha with 98% of germination), with a yield of 1.3 ton/ha. In 1983-84, another experiment was established in a factorial experimental design with four replications, with 30 and 60 cm between rows and 40, 90, 140 and 190 kg/ha of seed; the best
treatment was 40 kg/ha ( 84% of germination ) in rows of 30 and 60 cm wide with yields of 3.4 and 3.2 ton/ha, respectively. In the same year, the effect of three sowing methods as well as the effect of disking was compared at two locations; the best method was plowing and planting (locally called "rabo de buey"); disking is needed when big clods are formed.
