FORMATION OF SORGHUM HYBRIDS FOR GRAIN. III. PROPOSITION OF A PROGENITOR SELECTION MODEL BASED ON YOUR GENETIC PARAMETERS

Abstract

There is not enough information available in Mexico about parental lines selection criteria for hybrid formation on self-pollinated plants. In this paper a method is proposed for grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) parental selection, using general combining ability value and variance of the specific combining ability, ACG and o²_ACE respectively, as well as the relation between additive and non additive effects on the progeny performance. The use of a weighted selection value that includes both, the ACG value and the o² _ACE is considered as the most suitable.
