Abstract

One of the most destructive diseases of the wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) crop is leaf rust caused by the fungus Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici. In 1987 a study was conducted to determine the inheritance ofresistance to culture TBD-TM of leaf rust in resistant cultivars Agent and Agatha. These cultivars were crossed and backcrossed to Aricosta 83 which is a very susceptible cultivar. Reaction types were recorded upon inoculation of the subsequent F2 and F3 seedlings of the segregating generations and of the F1 of the backcross. The genetic analysis indicated that resistance in Agent and Agatha to culture TBD-TM is conditioned by one dominant gene.
