PHENOLOGY OF FRUCTIFICATION OF TIIE NEW COTTON VARIETY 'LAGUNA 89' AND OF THE CULTIVAR 'DELTAPINE 80'

Abstract
At "La Laguna" Experimental Station in Matamoros Coah., the fruiting phenology ofLaguna 89, a new cotton variety, and the cultivar Deltapine 80 was studied. The planting date was april 11, 1988. Both cultivars were allocated in a randomized complete block design with thiee replications. Phenology data were obtained from six plants per plot. Data obtained were plant blooming rate, boll opening rate, boll retention rate and boll maturity period. The flowers and open bolls were date tagged the day they appeared. The comparative analysis showed crop phenology differences between varieties. Both showed similar blooming period, (77 days), büt Laguna 89 showed a higher blooming rate, and a greater number of blooms and bolls production than Deltapine 80. Boll set of Laguna 89 was a week earlier than in the cheek. Laguna 89 boll maturity period was three to five days shorter than in the check. Crop cycle of Deltapine 80 was of 181 days, a week longer than Laguna 89 cycle.
