FLORAL CHARACTERISTICS AND YIELD POTENTIAL OF FOUR CULTIVARS OF MANGO IN UXMAL, YUCATAN, MEXICO
Main Article Content
Abstract
The mango tree is a specie with unstable production closely related to some flowering aspects. This study was conducted in order to observe some flowering characteristics of the most promising cultivars for the South of Yucatán and how they relate with fruit production. "Tommy Atkins" had the highest percentage (39%) of hermaphrodite tlowers over "Kensington" (7 %), "Mulgoa" (6 %), and "Lucio-1" (4 %); apparently, there is no relationship between a high percentage of hermaphrodite flowers and high yield. About floral morphology, cultivars "Mulgoa and "Kensington had shorter styles (1.68 mm) than either "Tommy Atlkins"(1.87 mm) or "Lucio-1" (2.26 mm). Stamen length was shorter in "Mulgoa" (0.65 mm) followedby "Kensington" (0.78 mm), "Tommy Atkins" (0.80 mm), and "Lucio-1" (0.88 mm).
