Abstract

This paper provides ethnobotanical information on the medicinal plants used in Tixtla, Guerrero, México, whose population has scarce formal medical resources available. Its purpose is to contribute toward the knowledge and documentation of the usage of medicinal flora within the municipality, through the compilation of existing studies, fieldwork and data from the Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero herbarium. A list of 65 medicinal species belonging to 33 botanical families and 58 genera, was obtained. Some 92 ailments were recognized locally, among which gastrointestinal, diverse signs and symptoms, gynecological, respiratory and culturally affiliated diseases stood out.
