Abstract

Chilli pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) wilt, induced by Phytophthora capsici L., is the most destructive disease of this crop. An effective and environmentally friendly management alternative is the use of varieties with genetic resistance. The new source of resistance to P. capsici that has recently been detected is the Serrano type pepper line 41-1. The aim of this research was to determine the inheritance of resistance to P. capsici of the chilli pepper line41-1. An evaluation of resistance to P. capsici of parents Tampiqueño 74 (P1susceptible) and Serrano 41-1 (P2 resistant), along with generations F1, F2, BCP1, BCP2 and F3 was carried out 7 d after inoculation, when all seedlings from the susceptible parent showed susceptibility. The segregations in resistant and susceptible seedlings in the F2 , BCP1 and BCP2 generations were adjusted through a chi-squared test to the proportions 7 resistant: 9 susceptible, 0 resistant:all susceptible and 3 resistant:1 susceptible, respectively, and in the F3
generation, segregation in resistant, segregating and susceptible to the 7:8:1 ratio. These proportions indicate that the trait of resistance to P. capsici of line 41-1 is determined by two duplicated recessive genes.
