PROFITABILITY OF DRY CHILI AT ZACATECAS, MÉXICO

Abstract

This work deals about the profitability of the production system for dry chili (Capsicum annuum L.) in the Zacatecas highlands (México), considering the technological level used, production costs, yields and prices, and the producer level (small, medium and large). The production systems were classified in four ranges based on the property size, assuming that they are associated with different technology levels, and different yields and profitabilities A comparative analysis of those production technologies was also made with the technology recommended by the National Institute of Forest and Agricultural Research (INIFAP) at the Zacatecas Experimental Research Station. The results showed that as property size and technology application increased, yields per hectare were bigger and the profitability increased as well. The profitability of the smallest production system was also the lowest (71 %), while that of the system based on potential technology recommended by INIFAP was the highest (172 %).
