Main Article Content
Abstract
In the State of Michoacán, the Meseta Tarasca is a region with a wide genetic variability in its native maize and where, up to now,
there are no improved varieties with acceptable adaptation, so that for increasing the yields it is necessary the exploitation of the native germplasm. In 1979, 64 native maices were collected in a total of 21 localities; the region was subdivided in 5 subregions according to the altitud and the cultivated area. In 1980, the collections were evaluated in three localities; in two of them 23 characters were studied to learn about their associatiori between them. Also the stabílity parameters for grain yield were obtained concluding that there is stability in most of the collections, having found excellent materials such as San Lorenzo 1, 2 and 3, Corupo 2 and Turícuaro 2, which can be used in commercial plantings or in genetic breeding programs through family or mass selection.
