Abstract

In the Experimental Field of La Laguna, Coahuila (CALALA), this work was carried out with the purpose of knowing the fruiting phenology of the improved line of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) QSU 16-1 soon to be released, in comparison
with the commercial variety Deltapine 80. Planting was carried out on April 17, 1985 using a population of 62,500 plants/ha. In a distribution of paired plots with four replicates, 24 plants (six per replicate) per variety were randomly located. Both genotypes showed similarity in their flowering dynamics, bud production, crop establishment and duration of the acorn phase, which suggests that the production technology recommended for the Deltapine 80 variety is applicable to the improved line. QSU 16-1 and Deltapine 80 also exhibit almost acorn characteristics and fiber properties similar.
