PHYSIOTECHNICAL RESEARCH IN THE AREA OF DROUGHT RESISTANCE OF THE GENETICS CENTER FROM THE POSTGRADUATE COLLEGE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Drought resistance is not only important for 80% of the cultivated area under rainfed conditions in Mexico, and for 75% worldwide, but it is also important in irrigated regions where it is feasible to reduce irrigation in the less sensitive ontogenic stages. to water deficits. For these reasons, the Genetics Center has promoted the area of drought resistance research, in connection with Plant Genetics and Genotechnology, since its formal establishment in February 1976. It should be noted that the roots of this area date back to decade of the 60's when the studies of tolerance to permanent wilting in corn (Zea mays) L. were carried out (44, 56, 57), which were resumed until the beginning of the decade of the 70's (17, 45).
