PHYSIOTECHNICAL RESEARCH IN VEGETABLES
Main Article Content
Abstract
Vegetables have great socio-economic importance for Mexico because they generate an income five times greater than that of
other crops, constitute an essential complement to the diet of the Mexican people, and through the export of 7 Millions of tons produce foreign exchange of around 3 billion dollars. The main problems that affect vegetable production in Mexico are: 1) Saturation and lack of market; 2) High production costs; 3) Lack of efficient technology; 4) High incidence of harmful organisms; 5) Lack of quality and consistency in production, and 6) Insufficient level of exports. Among the options to attack the aforementioned problems, physiotechnical studies aimed at determining how plants grow and how they respond to environmental and management factors should be considered.
