Abstract

The world's population is growing more and more every day, and particularly in our country it is growing rapidly and demanding more and better food. In Mexico our diet is basically corn, of which we are not yet self-sufficient, having to import large quantities year after year.

In recent years of research in corn there has been a focus on the use of short varieties, through theuse of dwarfism mutants, such as the recessive brachytic-2 gene (br 2) and the spontaneous mutant "square stem", among others. In addition, characteristics for erect and narrow leaves are sought, to achieve more efficient plants in high population densities.
