EFFECT OF GIBERELLIC ACID, UREA, ETREL AND DEFLORATION IN THE PRODUCTION OF RUNS FROM TWO STRAWBERRY CULTIVARS

Abstract

The effect of gibberelic acid (GA₃), urea, ethrel and flower removal, on the runner production of two strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) cultivars, was evaluated at Montecillo, State of México. Results showed that the cv Tioga was more vigorous and had more runners per plant than the cv CP84S. GA₃, urea, ethrel and flower remotion did not aftect the runner production; however, GA₃ reduced the number of leaves and root carbohydrate content, and increased the runner length ( distance from the mother plant to the first daughter plant). Urea reduced the root carbohydnlte content and ethrel reduced the runner length.
