Abstract

This work was done during 1997 in Montecillo, Texcoco, México, where the response of two-year-old Golden Delicious apple (Malus
domestica Borkh) trees under different soil moisture levels (fertigation, plastic mulch, rainfed), organic fertilization (with and without) and rootstocks (MM.111, MM.106, M.7, and M.26), were studied. This experiment was designed as a split split plot, with two replications. Soil moisture, water and applied fertilizer were quantified. Tree dimensions and some of its relationships were analyzed. It is possible to save 48 % of water by mulching without detrimental effects on tree growth, as compared to fertigation. Organic fertilization at this stage of development does not have effects on growth. Rootstocks producing the largest trees were MM.111, MM.106 and M.7.
