Abstract
H-135 is a hybrid whose female is a simple cross formed by two lines originating in El Bajio and whose male progenitor is the Hgo line. 10-3 that belongs to the Chalqueño Race. The lines of the single cross (H~353-245-6-10 x H-353-363-7-2) were selected for their resistance to head smut (Sphacelotheca reiliana (Kuehn) Clinton). The line H-353-245-6-10 has
a "Good" seed productivity of 3878 kg/ha; plant height, 224 cm; cob height, 114 cm; male flowering, 93 days and female 96 days. The H-353-363-7-2 line has a yield of less than 2000 kg/ha, has protandry and flowers 10 days earlier than the female line from the simple cross. The Hgo line. 10-3 yields 2600 kg/ha of seed, has a plant height of 223 cm and an ear height of 108 cm. When certified seed of the H-135 hybrid is increased in El Bajio, the female simple cross coincides in flowering with the male line, which occurs after approximately 83 days.
The H-135 hybrid has a maximum experimental yield of 17 tons/ha and a commercial average of 9.1 tons/ha. Male flowering occurs in 77 to 102 days and female flowering in 83 to 107 days, depending on the altitude at which the crop is established. The plant height ranges from 220 to 279 cm and the cob from 118 to 158 cm. It has ears 18 to 28.5 cm long and 5.1 to 6.0 cm wide.
diameter: with 15 to 22 rows per ear and 31 to 45 grains per row. The grain is serrated and white. When grown at altitudes above 1900 meters above sea level and low temperatures occur, the pericarp of some ears has a slightly violet hue.
The H-135 hybrid replaces the H-133 withdrawn from the market due to its susceptibility to head smut; The H-135 is a little smaller than H-133, but it exceeds it by 11.3% in average performance at the national level. In fields infested with head smut in Zapopan, Jal., H-135 has presented a 2.35% incidence of this disease compared to 7.08% for H-311. When applying the stability parameters, the H-135 was classified as "Better response in good environments but inconsistent." When H-135 is grown at altitudes above 2100 meters above sea level, it presents an incidence of rust (Puccinia sp). The certified seed of the highest physical, genetic and physiological quality is obtained in locations in El Bajío, where yields greater than 6.0 tons/ha of seed can be expected; That is, it is a highly profitable hybrid in seed production. Starting in 1987, it was registered in the National Registry of Plant Varieties with the number MAZ-180886-113.
