Abstract

With the purpose of obtaining and characterizing maizes agronomically and by their ACG and ACE utilizable as altemative to land race varieties or F2 from hybrids in the central region of Jalisco and SE of Nayarit State, México, it was utilized the diallel IV design of Griffing with nine commercial hybrids of the region. The parents were analized according their ACG and variance of ACE through their eight crosses; whereas the progenies were analized according to the relative amount of their genotypic mean. Five parental hybrids With positive effectc of ACG were found: P-3288 (0.4091), M-355 (0.2484),. B-'810 (0.1591), P-507 (0.1556), and B-83 (0.0270). From the best five crosses for ear yield three could be commercially utilized only as hybrids (ACG<ACE) B-83 x P-507 (6.625 t/ha); P-3288 x 0-356 (5.525 t/ha), and P-3288 x HV-313 (5.325 t/ha), and two as synthetic varieties and base populations to improve by recurrent selection (ACG=ACE): P-3288 x M-355 (5.525 t/ha) and B- 810 X P-3288 (5.3/ha).
