Abstract

The aim of this study was to chemically characterize the response of three
canola genotypes (Monty, Hyola-401 and IMC-204) to the application of
brasinosteroids in plant. By means of a completely randomized design and a
factorial arrangement, six treatments were established (three genotypes with
and without application of brasinosteroids). Seed samples were obtained to
determine the variables: ether extract (EE), crude protein (CP), soluble crude
protein (SCP), neutral detergent insoluble crude protein (NDICP) and acid
detergent insoluble crude protein (ADICP); all expressed as percentage in dry
basis. Hyola-401 and Monty genotypes showed the highest contents of SCP
(20.2 and 18.5 %, respectively) and CP (24.5 and 24.6 %, respectively). The
Hyola-401 genotype presented the lowest contents of ADICP (4.4 %), NDICP
(7.1 %) and EE (42.0 %). The average CP of the three genotypes increased by
the application of brasinosteroids (22.7 to 28.8 %), mainly in the Hyola-401
genotype (21.7 to 26.3 %). In conclusion, the Hyola-401 genotype, that
showed low values of EE, NDICP and ADICP, increased its protein content by
the application of brasinosteroids.
